As summer comes to a close, the hurricane season is just getting started! South Carolina has been hit by five major hurricanes since 1700. The most recent being Hurricane Hugo in 1989, which at the time was the costliest storm inflicting more than $7 billion in damage in the US and more than $10 billion throughout the US and Caribbean. It is now the sixth costliest in history, but is always present in the minds of those in SC.
